2. Don't skip breakfast.

After an important good night's sleep -- 7 to 8 hours-- your body has been renewing itself, building up your immune system. But it has depleted itself of the nutrition that's needed to get on with the day. That's why it's called "breakfast" or, "break-fast".

It's better to start off the day with something high protein. It will keep you from having a carbohydrate craving later in the morning. It will metabolize slower over a longer period of time, and will cause your metabolism to speed up.

3. Eat small numerous meals each day.

Eat often and eat smaller portions, 5 or 6 a day. That small amount will not only help your hunger, and therefore your maintaining a proper weight, but it will help your metabolism burn fat at a maximum capacity.

4. Eat plenty of protein-rich food.

I mentioned starting with a high-protein breakfast, but even for the rest of the day, it will help if you consume more protein than the average person does. Protein foods just have a way of increasing the speed of your metabolism while still allowing you to lose weight by preventing the insulin syndrome that causes fat storage.

5. Be active.

You don't need to be a marathon runner or an Arnold-type weight lifter, but don't be a couch potato. You can take brisk walks, lift a few weights at the gym, or a few milk cartons filled with water at home. It's best to activate your whole body. Do plenty of moving throughout the day.
